MIAMI, Florida — March 26, 2013 – American Business Continuity Domes (ABC Domes), the U.S.-based developer and builder of disaster-resistant, steel-reinforced thin-shell concrete domes, has announced the formation of ABC Domes Canada. The company will have operating offices in both Ontario and Nova Scotia.

With successes in the U.S., the company is well positioned to pursue Canadian development opportunities for thin-shell concrete domes. Most recently, ABC Domes has completed the dome component of a community center / safe shelter in Hammon, Oklahoma and was also awarded a contract to build another FEMA-compliant* (Federal Emergency Management Administration in the U.S.) multi-purpose fine arts center / safe shelter in Lumberton, Texas. Additionally, ABC Domes is developing a northeast U.S. headquarters in New Jersey in direct response to the demand of the post Superstorm Sandy environment.

“Our domes are far superior to traditionally constructed buildings. Because of their strong and ergonomic shape, and use of superior building materials, they are virtually unaffected by time, weather, seismic activity, or manmade assault, thus meeting FEMA’s standards for near-absolute survivability. The domes, built to withstand wind speeds of 300 miles per hour, are the most disaster-resistant structures that can be built, and at a price-to-value ratio more favorable than traditional construction,” said Barry Sheehy, Managing Director of ABC Domes Canada. “The next generation of Domes will be largely self-sufficient and equipped to operate off the grid and, given Canada’s harsh climate, we see an enormous market for our dome technology,” he continued. Sheehy is based in Gabarus, Cape Breton Island.

ABC Dome presently has multi-dome business continuity facilities in Lakeland, Florida, and a LEED Silver rated dome in Sealy, Texas. The domes provide near absolute protection from hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes and fires, and are utilized by a variety of industries for purposes ranging from secure storage to disaster recovery and business continuity. The company operates in a strategic alliance with two of the most renowned dome design, engineering and construction firms in the world, Dome Technology and ES2 Engineering System Solutions and, collectively they have completed more than 500 domes worldwide, representing the high-end of the dome market.

ABC Domes to build FEMA-compliant* dome component of Lumberton Fine Arts Center.

Sealy, Texas — March 21, 2013 – American Business Continuity Domes, Inc. (“ABC Domes”) and Dome Technology, the U.S.-based alliance that develops and builds disaster-resistant, steel-reinforced thin-shell concrete domes, was officially awarded the contract to build the dome component of the City of Lumberton/Lumberton ISD Fine Arts Center in Hardin County. The project was awarded to ABC Domes by Daniels Building & Construction, Inc., the Beaumont-based general contractor on the project.

The new Fine Arts Center, designed by architects Cutright & Allen Architects, Inc. of La Grange, will be utilized as a 1,500 seat fine arts / auditorium / convention center and will also function as a FEMA-compliant* safe room with capacity for 1,133.

The new Fine Arts Center, designed by architects Cutright & Allen Architects, Inc. of La Grange, will be utilized as a 1,500 seat fine arts / auditorium / convention center and will also function as a FEMA-compliant* safe room with capacity for 1,133.

The project is scheduled for site work in June of 2013, with ABC Domes commencing dome construction in mid-July. Completion of the project is planned for the summer of 2014. Innovative features of the 25,447 square foot project include its low profile roofline and the use of Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs) by Nudura.

“When you have a unique project such as a concrete shell dome, you can bet it’s not just another day at the office. Then if it happens to be a FEMA hurricane/tornado safe room, throw in the 200 MPH wind resistance requirement and begin to rethink every conventional aspect when dealing with a dome from dimensions to elevations to conventional detailing. After three decades of designing what most people would think of as an ordinary building the dome is truly an extraordinary type of structure. ABC Domes was hands on in assisting us with alternatives to the stem wall construction and design concepts that resulted in an economical and energy-efficient building. Lumberton ISD, ABC Domes, and all of our consultants have been an exceptional team to work with,” said Brad Cutright, Cutright & Allen Architects, Inc.

ABC Domes’ facilities provide near absolute protection from hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes and fires, and are utilized by a variety of industries for purposes ranging from secure storage to disaster recovery and business continuity.

Hammon, Oklahoma — November 15, 2012 – American Business Continuity Domes, Inc. (“ABC Domes”), Dome Technology and ES2 Engineering System Solutions, the U.S.-based alliance that develops and builds disaster-resistant, steel-reinforced thin-shell concrete domes, marked a milestone on its Hammon, Oklahoma project with the recent inflation of the dome’s airform. The airform is both the form for construction of the dome and the outer roof membrane of the shell.

The new structure, designed by Kerr 3 Design Group, Inc. and constructed by Red Sky Constructors, LLC – both of Edmond, Oklahoma – will be used primarily as an 1100 seat gymnasium / school and will also function as a storm shelter for the Town of Hammon.

Scheduled for completion in August of 2013, innovative features of the 28,000 square foot project include its low profile roofline and the use of Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs) by Nudura.

ABC Domes provide near absolute protection from hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes and fires, and are utilized by a variety of industries for purposes ranging from secure storage to disaster recovery and business continuity.

The domes are built for use as:

FEMA-361Compliant* Storm Shelter Domes

Disaster Recovery Command Centers

Emergency Equipment and Vehicle Storage

Bulk Storage

Records/Data Warehousing and Inventory

Community Centers

Sports Arenas and Gymnasiums

Churches

Offices

Schools

IT Server Parks

Data Centers

Video Projection Domes

ABC Domes are far superior to traditionally constructed buildings. Because of their strong and ergonomic shape, and use of superior building materials, they are virtually unaffected by time, weather, seismic activity, or manmade assault, thus meeting standards for near-absolute survivability. The domes, built to withstand wind speeds of 300 miles per hour, are the most disaster-resistant structures that can be built, and at a price-to-value ratio more favorable than traditional construction.

Dome Technology is a world-leader and premier builder of insulated steel reinforce concrete domes. Over the past 30 years, they have successfully completed 500 domes throughout the United States and internationally. As a team, ABC Domes and Dome Technology possess more than 45 years of proven experience in the creation of thin-shell concrete domes.

ES2 Engineering System Solutions is a full-service, licensed, and insured structural, electrical, plumbing and mechanical engineering company, and a Building Systems Commissioning firm. In the area of steel reinforced, thin-shell concrete domes, ES2 has advanced design and analysis skills not found in any other professional firm in the world. ES2 has been the engineer of record for the vast majority of reinforced concrete shells constructed globally, using the air formed method.
